Jewish historic sites


   Tarnów

Baczków - on the brink of the NiepoĹ‚omicki primeval forest there is a monument commemorating the mass murder of the old and young alike by Nazis during the Jewish displacement. Five concrete plates cover their graves and upright steles on the center plate contain Polish and Hebrew inscriptions.

Bobowa - one of the Hasidism religions centres where we can find a well preserved brick synagogue from the 18 th century with some wooden features. There is also a cemetery with partially preserved tombstones and a few new memorials.

Bochnia - a well maintained cemetery founded in 1872 and a synagogue that has since been adapted to banking. A poultry slaughterhouse is the only preserved building from the once great block of synagogues in an area now used for living quarters. The local museum shows an exhibition of judaicas, Jewish documents.

Brzesko - a fenced and tidy cemetery from 1846 that encloses a few hundred graves, tombstones, and ohel. There is also the old synagogue and bath, which are now used for cultural purposes.

Brzostek - a synagogue now used as a boarding-house.

DÄ…browa Tarnowska - there were once Jewish asssemblies (waad) in this city. Currently it has a cemetery with few tombstones, a deteriorating synagogue containing beautiful paintings that have proved resistent to the abuse of time, and a private prayer house (presently, a museum).

Dębica - a cemetery with a new monument commemorating the Nazis victims.

Nowy Wiśnicz - the second oldest cemetery (17 th century) after Tarnow kirkut, which contains several ornamented tombstones.

Pilzno - a cemetery in complete ruin.

Radomyśl Wielki - apart from the dismantled cemetery that originated in the 19 th century, here you can find the Regional Museum that displays some Jewish-oriented exhibits.

Rzepiennik StrzyĹĽewski - a cemetery in total ruin.

Szczucin - a decimated cemetery, overgrown with trees.

Zakliczyn - a Jewish World War I cemetery that was built by the Austrian army. Near Piłsudskiego Street there is a Rabbi House, or a Jewish place of prayer.

Zbylitowska Góra - a monument in the Buczyna wood commemorating the murder of approximately 6000 Tarnów Jews. The mass graves are marked, one of which being the grave of 800 children that were shot to death.

Żabno - a cemetery with many preserved tombstones.
